- Moja pierwsza wizyta na Górnym Śląsku poprzedzona była klasycznym wyobrażeniem: szyb, hałdy, dym. Już pierwsza wizyta, z wydatną pomocą Michała Kubieńca i Dominika Tokarskiego, ukazała mi zupełnie inny Śląsk. Nie tylko górniczy, nie tylko po-górniczy. Ale również ten, który wyrastał równoległe do tego czym Śląsk żył. Na węglu powstały tu betonowe perły, w których konstrukcjach dojrzałem litery. Tak zrodził się pomysł na Typografy Śląskie, w których łączę fascynację literami i architekturą - mówi autor Valery Virag.

Typografy Śląskie, to cykl wykonanych ręcznie serigrafii, na które składają się typograficzne przedstawienia śląskiej architektury. Cykl otworzył kwadryptyk, który można traktować jako ikoniczny szlak po modernistycznej architekturze Katowic: Superjednostka, Gwiazdy, Kukurydze, CINiBA. Dalej zaczęły pojawiać się budynki, niekoniecznie pierwszoplanowe, choć ciągle inspirujące typograficznie. Każdy zamyka się w jakimś układzie liter. Niekiedy jest to jeden, nie kiedy kilkadziesiąt znaków. Jakby Śląsk podszyty szybami, stał twardo na literach. Kolejnym etapem są budynki, które były na Śląsku, ale niekoniecznie tam są. Pojawia się pływająca kawiarnia "Arizona", którą teraz można trafić na Pogorii 1, czy istniejąca kilkanaście lat szklarnia wieżowa. Niebawem ich los zapewne podzieli "ostatni katowicki brutal", budynek Śląskiego Instytutu Naukowego.

- Before visiting Lower Silesia my impressions of the region were mainly revolving around the classical images, including mine shafts, slag heaps, smoke. However, after the first visit, due to the invaluable help of Michał Kubieniec and Dominik Tokarski, a totally different face of Silesia has unveiled in front of my eyes. Referring not only to mining industry or post mining realities, but most of all encompassing the artefacts of the area that had been erected simultaneously to the main players of daily grind of the region. On the coal-bound landscape had arisen concrete gems in which I later discovered hidden letters. And that was the beginning of the idea of the cycle Silesia Typography that combine my fascination of characters and architecture. - said author Valery Virag.

Silesia Typography, is a series of handmade serigraphs that contain topographic displays of Silesian architectural pieces. The cycle has been commenced by a quadriptych, that could be considered an iconic path through modernist architecture of Katowice: Superjednostka (SuperUnit), Gwiazdy (Stars), Kukurydze (Corn-cobs), CINiBA (the building of the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library). Later appeared not necessarily the key era buildings, but still very inspiring in a typographical sense. Each of them is enclosed in some kind of letter related setup. It ranges from one to many characters. As if Silesia with the mine shaft background had been raised on letter foundations. The next stage is dedicated to buildings that no longer exist. There is a floating coffee bar "Arizona", that can be nowadays seen in Pogoria or another temporary monument, the flower tower.
